Lake of Bays
Lake of Bays Township, located in the Muskoka District was officially incorporated in 1877 and named after its stunning centerpiece Lake of Bays a glacially carved lake with over 100 islands and 245 km of shoreline. Originally home to the Anishinaabe people the area became a hub for logging in the 1800s before transforming into a luxury cottage destination in the early 20th century. The Muskoka and Ottawa Railway (later part of the Grand Trunk Railway) helped establish tourism, attracting wealthy families who built grand summer estates.
Today, Lake of Bays remains a pristine wilderness retreat known for boating, fishing, and upscale cottage life.
